Xubuntu and a Pentium III

I was given a P3 over the weekend to rebuild and give to someone who doesn't have or can't afford a PC.....the machine only has 128MB of memory, so Ubuntu was out, as was Kubuntu.
I first installed Puppy linux on it and it performed well. My only problem was Puppy is really for geeks. The average person isn't going to find it very useable, IMHO. I really wanted to install Lubuntu but it doesn't seem ready for primetime yet.
I installed Xubuntu and it took a while. Almost an hour. That's wasn't a deterrent for me so I continued on and once installed, couldn't get sound working. I figured that out and adjusted the swappiness setting; performance was a little better.
In the end I'm sticking with this - Gnome is going to be much friendlier for the recipient of this PC and although performance is a little sluggish, it's tolerable and unless more memory falls from the sky, this will have to do.
